Chapter IThe Foundation

World War II Era Origin

Appointed during the early years of World War II — a time of massive global uncertainty — the Board was established as a crucial pillar of discipline to guide the college through troubled times.

Traditional Structure

Three prefects from each house were historically elected through a popular vote.

The Head Prefect and Deputy were appointed by the Brother Director in consultation with senior staff.

Prefects typically remained in office until leaving the school.

Constitutional Exceptions

Some Head Prefects were voted to continue their leadership into an unprecedented second year.

If an elected Head Prefect could not complete his full term, his Deputy would automatically step in.

In 1868, the administration of St. Benedict's College was officially taken over by the De La Salle Brothers.
